Beijing has announced a new national security law that would threaten Hong Kong’s semi-autonomous status. Pro-democracy protesters now fear what they see as an unprecedented attack on freedoms in the city.
In June 2019, more than a million people started marching through Hong Kong to protest a draft law that would allow extraditions to mainland China.
The bill was shelved – but throughout months of demonstrations, protestors faced a heavy crackdown from police and officials. (📹: DW News)
